Since yesterday was the 40th anniversary of beloved Benjamin Biolay, I wanted to make him a little hommage. The song of this Monday was out in his last record Vengeance, and it’s a duet with Julia Stone called Conffetis. And since it snowed a lot this last weekend and I saw Paris covered with a white magic carpet for the first time in my life, I decided that it’s absolutely necessary to post a second song for this musical Monday. Unfortunately, I’m too limited to even begin to describe the splendor of beauty that exploded in every corner of this…

I’m definitely diving into another Benjamin Biolay phase. Again. (Will I ever get sick of him? I don’t know, only time can answer that). So I found today a version he sang if his own Ça valait la peine, a beautiful song he wrote for his sister Coralie Clément. I always loved it in the voice of Coralie, but now I can’t decide which version I like the most.

I just LOVE when someone I adore makes a good cover of a song I like. It’s like mixing up two very delicious things and putting them together in a blender, something like Nutella milkshake. That’s why I got super excited when I found this morning a version Benjamin Biolay made of J’suis snob, by Boris Vian. The original, that was already awesome, became something else in the voice of Biolay. Check it out:

My dear friend Louis, from the blog French Kisses, sent me very cool video featuring a great duet by Benjamin Biolay and Mayra Andrade (a Cape Verde singer that sounds very Brazilian). The pair sang together a version of Brazilian classic O que será, by Chico Buarque. The song was first recorded in French in the 70’s by Claude Nougaro and was also recently performed by Zazie and Bénabar in a live concert.

Many people who reads this blog comes here because they know that the best way to learn a language is listening to music. And unlike what many readers think, I do not speak French fluently, on the contrary, I would call my level low-intermediate. So today I decided to list some songs that have helped me better understand French. The songs listed were chosen because a) they have a very basic French, b) they are easy to understand; c) they are sung in a very clear French. I hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me! 1. Sympathique,…

I’m sure it’s not a secret to you guys that I’m super excited with the release of the posthumous record by Henri Salvador, that is being produced by no one less the Benjamin Biolay, as I reported last December. The album will be released in June 18 and already has a name: Tant de temps. Very appropriate. And that’s the reason why I got so excited when I read today that there’s already a taste of this so awaited album circulating the web (don’t you just love the internet?). The song is called Ça n’a pas d’importance and you can…

Do you guys remember that, last year, during an interview with Benjamin Biolay in Paris, I heard him speaking of a work in progress about a brand new record with new song by the late Henri Salvador? Well, finally today there was news on the very much awaited new album. Apparently, it will be released on June 18. While we anxiously wait, how about listening to one of his most fun covers? It’s a song that always makes me smile.

So, it’s that time of the year. Love is in the air. Everywhere you look, heart shaped balloons seem to be floating around. There’s no denying, even the coolest couples are somehow affected by Valentine’s Day. And what’s best for the background of your special day with your better half than French music? Seriously, French chanson is to music what Valentine’s Day is to every other day of the year. So I prepared a little list for those who are looking for the perfect soundtrack to surprise and dazzle their loved ones on Valentine’s Day. And I’d like to remind…
