Samba in French

The famous Carnival in Brazil is about to begin and, inspired by the joy one can clearly feel in the air during this time of the year, I selected some songs that are considered great sambas from my country. And since this blog is about French chanson, of course the songs I selected are French versions of those sambas.

Dalida – La Banda (version of A Banda, by Chico Buarque)

Pierre Vassiliu – Qui c’est celui-là?  (version of Partido Alto, by Chico Buarque)

Nicoletta – Fio Maravilha (version of Fio Maravilha, by Jorge Benjor)

Fio Maravilla by Nicoletta on Grooveshark

And, to wrap it up in style, how about some of the Brazilian’s finest? Yes, I’m talking about Samba da Benção, by Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim. This version is pure gold: sang by Pierre Barouh for the movie Un homme et une femme, by Claude Lelouch.
