Mika released last Friday his second third album, called The Origin of Love, and the CD is filled with songs in French! The fact that Mika is singing a lot in French is not surprising, since he is a big hit in Paris and he speaks fluent French (he’s lebanese, after all). I’ve just discovered, listening to FIP (that great French radio station I already spoke about here), a new singer called Maïa Vidal. The 24 years old young woman is American, but she recorded her first album – called God is my Bike – in Barcelona. She spends a lot of time in Europe and apparently is an admirer of the French chanson. The record brings two tracks in French, but my favorite song is in English and has a beautiful music video. The great website Pure Charts announced yesterday that the song chosen to be the single that will promote the homage album dedicated to Gilbert Bécaud is the amazing The day that the rains came down, interpreted by German singer Ayo (accompanied with the band Readymade FC). The record was released in December last year (in the 10th anniversary of Bécaud’s death) and features covers with the voices of heavy weights of the French chanson such as Alain Souchon, Olivia Ruiz, Renan Luce and Alex Beaupain. However, in my opinion the best version is really the one sang by Ayo. Check it out.
